When one is accepted into heaven, there is always a split counter part waiting to rise from the darkness…Where there is sunlight, a shadow always follows.Awakening from the slumbers of a dark cave, the golden dragon heaves a deep sigh - her eyes opening slowly, adjusting to the desolate view of bones, rubble and tangled rotting roots.Her vision still blurry, the narrows of her eyes make out a small figure approaching the den with haste. Only a slight pitter patter can be heard, whose trotting she could only assume was her companion. She clicks her tongue.. tilting her head forward to get a better look. Her gaze follows the little figure, tracing it's speedy movement.“Madam, I’m afraid there is nothing left for us here. I suggest we leave. Something terrifying looms here.” A small voice beckons.The pitter patter becomes more apparent and comes to a halt. The dragon then feels a gentle depression leaning into her side. Curling her tail closer to her large form, she embraces the creature with a soft squeeze. Taking in the brief moment of silence, her eyes continue to widen fully.“Azlore, I’ve told you not to leave my side. I cannot protect you when you wander.”“Mori, we’ve been companions for many years; this venture will not be my last, I assure you. You were asleep anyway.”“You are quite minuscule, my friend. It's a wonder that my claws have not swept you to purgatory.”“Oh please, it’s my smallness that has gotten us out of many dangers, including that ghoul whom's scent was absolutely putrid!”“It’s precisely that tininess of yours that will get you eaten, my little demon. Perhaps... you’d prefer to be my meal considering I’ve just woken up... ?" A little squeak puffed out from down below. "That ghoul... did not satisfy me, besides, you know that monstrosity couldn't put so much as a scratch on me. My stomach hurts a little bit, though, if I'm being honest.”“Surely, you won’t resort to eating an old friend like me. Mori, I told you that snack was going to upset you before resting. He was rotten... but like... worse than rotten; alas, I know not to test you, my lady.”Azlore’s small form wriggled loose, stomping on some pebbles that skipped away. Moments later, large crackles of crushing earth could be heard - Mori rose and spanned her wings slightly so as to not open them fully. A faint howl of wind whistled down the cavern carrying a smell of salt water and seaweed. It was clear that they were not far from the mouth of the entryway."I've slept long enough, Azzy, let us depart." The pace of earthen vibration picked up, and the two were met with beams of moonlight - the night sky incredibly clear and the air crisp. Blades of tall grass swayed back and forth, ending at a shoreline met with white sand that shimmered and glistened - almost as if the beach itself were magic."Finally." Azlore snorted. "Any longer, and I would have gnawed my own hooves off. An ancient goat like me can only feast on knurled bitter roots like that once in a lifetime and find it acceptable for sustenance! Hmph! I was growing weary of that old place anyhow. It's not like it once was."The great dragon lightly whipped the tufts of her tail, brushing the snout of the miniature goat.ACHOO! Sniffle. "I've had enough of this!" he exclaimed."oh Az, there's no need to be like that.""First, that DERANGED ghoul, then the sickly roots.. you!!" THUMP. Mori flicked her tail, tossing Azlore onto his back. Aghast, he flailed his little hooves wriggling around in an attempt to right himself. "My-- my lady I-" fwup fwup, "this is unacceptable! You dare--HGHH!!" A deep weight pressed onto his belly."Now, now. Calm yourself dear one. You know it's not easy for me to return here either. Grab hold."Defeated, Azlore resigned himself, and rolled his eyes, gripping tightly. "This is a complete embarrassment..." the little ball of fur retorted. Feeling a rush of air, his small form latched as hard as his strength would allow as he was lifted into the air. Whoosh."I think it's more fun this way - if I toss you that is.""You know I prefer to climb up myself, or hook my scythe." Ignoring his retort , Mori stretched her wings and they took to the clear dark sky.
